Summer style is synonymous with comfort. While fall and winter call for cute layers and comfy accessories, scorching summer temperatures and sticky humidity mean that the windier the clothes, the more sweat-reducing they are, the better.
That’s why we intend to copy Jennifer Lawrence’s latest look, ASAP. According daily mail, Lawrence was spotted running cool and casual errands in Santa Monica wearing a flowy white babydoll dress and comfy white Nike sneakers. It was a rare sighting for the hunger games star who has reportedly been in bed since having her first child with husband Cooke Maroney four months ago. Our closets are happy she made an appearance, as we’re making her airy white dress and white sneakers our new must-have summer uniform.
Funny thing about babydoll dresses, they can go from “baby’s first christening” very quickly with no effort. Lawrence’s look proved otherwise, swapping crinkled smocks and oversized ruffles for an airy silhouette similar to the iconic Hill House Home nap dress accented with just some details at the neckline and sleeves. An otherwise delicate look was enhanced by the pair of Nikes she laced up on her feet, completing the outfit with a buttery yellow duffel bag and – arguably a timeless accessory – an iced coffee.
When it comes to summer style, this outfit ticks all of our boxes. On the one hand, it is white, a color that respects the heat and that will not leave us in a state of sweat like black or navy blue. But, it’s also airy and unrestricted while still being laid back (and comfortable) enough to do our own errands, thanks to the sneakers.

Light and light white dresses
Hill House Home, Athena Nap Dress — $95.00
The internet’s favorite nap dress has gotten a makeover, just in time for summer. It has all the ingredients of the original dress – puff sleeves, delicate details, a look that rivals anything Bridgerton—only her hem reaches mid-thigh. Its sheer cotton is perfect for keeping cool on sweaty summer days when no pants are allowed.
Everlane, the smocked dress with eyelets — $128.00
For the days that are really warm, opt for this Everlane smock tank top. It’s sleeveless, so armpits can catch a breeze, and it is made of 100% cotton for total breathability. Look closely and you’ll see eyelet cutouts, giving just the right amount of detail to an overall minimalist style.
Love Bonito Tiered Tie Back Dress — $45.00
Looking for A-list style on a budget? Love, Bonito, the fashion brand founded by AAPI, has what you need. This adorable blouse features puff sleeves and a square neckline. Combined with its flowing, ruffled tiers and delicate tie, you’ll never want to take it off. Also available in yellow, orchid and blue.
Free People, Undone Lace Mini Dress – $143.00
The first word I can think of to describe this dress is “cheeky”. Is it the plunging V-neck? Or is it the feminine tiered ruffles to the hem? Maybe it’s the lace material you just got to know will keep you cool when the temperatures start to climb. Pair it with sneakers and you’re ready to go.
Lake, Patio Dress – $118.00
Lake’s little diddy has all the makings of your new favorite summer dress, thanks to its smocked neckline, fluid cotton material and scalloped hems lined with colorful piping. It’s a little longer, designed to hit just above the knee, so if you’re planning on going for a bike ride, a walk, or anywhere else you need extra coverage, this is a solid option. Piping available in white, pink, blue and green.
White sneakers ready for summer
Nike, Air Force 1 ’07 — $100.00
It’s hard to say exactly which white sneakers JLaw is wearing on his afternoon walk, but if I was a gambler, I guess they are some iteration of the Air Force Ones. The iconic basketball shoe looks even better off the court and goes with just about anything. They’re crisp, they’re versatile, and they’re only $100 – talk about pumped up kicks.
Cariuma, Salvas in white leather — $98.00
Surely you have already seen some celebrity wearing a pair of Cariuma shoes – they’re everywhere, and for good reason. The Brazilian brand is all about sustainability, designing shoes that are built to last without destroying the planet. These simple sneakers are made from ethically sourced leather and natural rubber that have been mined to keep trees healthy. The best part is that they’re like walking on clouds, cushioning your feet with every step.
Madewell, Court high-top sneakers — Neutral — $128.00
Looking for a show with more support? Opt for the high-top sneaker opposed to the low-cut, like these pretty Madewell shoes. They’re a taller riff on the brand’s signature court trainer, trading that low profile for a taller ankle and rear placket. The fit is just as comfortable, but we love the simple beige suede detailing that pops against the white. Also available in two summery colorblocks: pale pink and beige, and hot pink and orange.
Keds, Triple Kick Canvas Sneakers – $60.00
Few things in the fashion world are as timeless as a classic pair of Keds. For $60, the canvas shoes tick all the boxes for a super summery shoe. They’re affordable, they’re durable, they’re easy to clean, and they go with just about anything.
Flux Shoes, Adapt Trainer — $130.00
If your top priority is comfort, get yourself a pair of Flux. They’re dubbed the “barefoot athleisure” shoe, thanks to their unique sole technology that makes you feel like you’re wearing nothing at all (in the best way possible). The best part? They are washable. So if you get them dirty on a hike or they stink from sweat, throw them in the washing machine and watch them get clean in a spin cycle.
