Kobe Bryant’s epic training program has inspired teammates like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony on Team Redeem.
The documentary about Team Redeem as LeBron James and Dwyane Wade have dropped product on Netflix, and it has fans across the NBA very excited. The team was one of the biggest ever assembled, with names like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony all involved in the gold medal return for Team USA.
The Redeem Team is considered the second greatest Team USA team ever, and there are even debates about whether they could have defeated the Dream Team. While the Dream Team is the original and was filled with many big names in history who were almost past their prime, most of the Redeem Team superstars were extremely young. And as such, they needed advice from veterans to help them get to the next level.
The man who led the Redeem team in 2008 and inspired them all was none other than Kobe Bryant. The Mamba was the oldest statesman in the team, although he still had 2 championships ahead of him, he had already been in the league for over a decade by then. And the stories that come out of the documentary of how Kobe inspired them are legends.
Redeem Team’s young stars were inspired after watching Kobe Bryant head into training as they returned from the club
Like any young NBA star, LBJ, DWade, Melo and the others wanted to party as they trained together for the Olympics. However, when they went to Las Vegas and came back early in the wee hours of the morning, what Kobe was doing changed the culture of the whole team.
Carlos Boozer: “We’re in Vegas, we’re practicing and stuff, and you know, we want to go out. So we’re all going out, everyone but Kob.”
Carmelo Anthony: “We came out to like Club Tryst or something.”
Carlos Boozer: “Come back to the hotel around 5:30 or 6:00 a.m., and guess who’s in the lobby on the way to the gym?”
Carmelo Anthony: “Kobe is down in the hall, with his bag, his sneakers and his gloves, like weightlifting gloves.”
Dwyane Wade: “And in my head I’m like, ‘What the fuck? “”
LeBron James: “That motherfucker from Kobe was already drenched in sweat and we were like, ‘Yeah, he’s different. “”
Carlos Boozer: “Like we’re all talking together, this guy is really dedicated. Next thing you know, it goes from Kobe at 5:30 in the morning, to LeBron and DWade. And before long, the whole team was on the Kobe schedule.”
This story sounds like Bryant, he was working tirelessly to become the best in the game. And he wasn’t about not to take it seriously either, Kobe had too much will to do it. The fact that he inspired so many great players of this generation will forever remain a feather in Kobe’s cap, it was one of his greatest accomplishments.
