The Super Bowl is fast approaching and some of the cleats that football fans will see on the field at some point have surfaced – including some extravagant ones created by Dominic “The Shoe Surgeon” Ciambrone.
When Los Angeles Rams star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. takes to the field at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Feb. 13 for pregame warmups, he’ll be wearing a very expensive pair of cleats on his feet, created by Ciambrone and jeweler Jason Arasheben, better known as Jason of Beverly Hills. The unique custom Nike look features 1,494 brilliant white diamonds of perfect clarity in D color, which have a total carat weight of 25 carats. Additionally, the studs will feature 150 grams of 14k yellow gold and are crafted with royal blue and yellow python.
The shoe surgeon confirmed that OBJ’s cleats – which took over 100 hours to create the diamond hardware alone – are valued at $200,000.
“I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of the players’ lives on and off the court, which is why they’re asking Jason from Beverly Hills to commemorate their big wins. The walk to the locker room has become the track and that “It was only a matter of time before it spilled over onto the pitch. I had a great time collaborating on this piece with Odell and Dominic. Excited to see how they’re doing on the pitch,” said Arasheben in a statement.
Beckham Jr.’s other The Shoe Surgeon cleat is inspired by the Off-White Dunk Low with a double lace closure system in a Rams colourway and executed with soft white and blue leather.
Besides Beckham Jr., Ciambrone has created Super Bowl cleats for three other Rams stars: Jalen Ramsey, Cooper Kupp and Von Miller.
One of Ramsey’s studs, dubbed “Daughter’s Love,” is inspired by Valentine’s Day and dedicated to his three daughters, Breelyn, Brooklyn and Joonie. Another is a chrome cleat inspired by the Vince Lombardi Trophy, awarded to Super Bowl winners, which is made with premium reflective chrome material. Her third pair is a bejeweled look with a matching headpiece that was created with help from The Dan Life.
Kupp has two pairs of cleats, which are his first from The Shoe Surgeon. A pair is inspired by Kaws athlete fandom, and will feature an authentic repurposed Comme des Garçons x Kaws dress shirt. It also features Kaws branding hand painted to match the Rams colors. Her second pair is also a double lace-up Off-White Dunk Low-inspired look, which matches OBJ’s.
Miller has a cleat inspired by the Adidas Crazy 1 (aka The Kobe). The look is executed with premium smooth blue leather on the upper with an embossed Adidas logo.
“Great cultural moments like the Super Bowl fuel my creativity and inspire me to push my creative boundaries. Over the years, I have built a close relationship with athletes around our shared interests in expressing individuality. across fashion,” Ciambrone said in a statement. “It’s an honor to bring their ideas together to help them celebrate these key moments in their careers.”
